Fall is here in the desert.

I go on hiatus a lot, don’t I?  I’ve recently been in training for my new job, while still working my gig at Madewell, so I am a busy, busy girl!  But I had some time this weekend to spend exploring with my best friend, and shooting one of my favorite looks for this chilly season.

I’m obsessed with flannel — especially in the boy realm.  I got cheap (sorry Madewell, get them off exclusion!) and went to buy flannel at Target because it was almost the same, general look for a lot less giving the same kind of comfort.  And we’re all in for a good deal this season, aren’t we?  Flannel is so versatile.  Here in Arizona (most days) it’s good enough for use as a jacket, but we got hit with a chilly and rainy front this past weekend, so I bundled.

If you know me, you know I love some good layers — especially with some denim.

I’m sorry, friends, but you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot of this!

Looks I love: Menswear.

Nothing’s more important than to know about both sides of the spectrum.  As a female, I keep up on both sides of trends: male and female.  And I gotta say, sometimes I’m jealous of menswear.  I love it.  It’s simplicity and cleanliness.  That’s why I bring a lot of male-styled pieces into my wardrobe.  Here are some of my favorite menswear looks!

ImageI think the last look takes the cake for my favorite.  What can I say?  I’m a denim fan.  And that’s not just because I work for a denim company — maybe.

None of these photos are credited to my own, and all were found on tumblr.

Date Night: What Not To Wear.

Working in retail, I get a lot of women that come in looking for first date outfits.  First dates are scary — especially if it’s with someone you’re just beginning to get to know.  Already feeling slightly inferior by nerves, it’s important to wear an outfit that makes you shine.  But one of the most common mistakes I see with women is their idea of “sexy” and what that entails.  Sexy is not measured by the amount of skin you show.  You don’t need to be barely their to feel beautiful.

Always dress to fit your body type and leave a sense of mystery.  You never want to give yourself away too much.   Wearing clothes that emphasize your features are far sexier than popping your boobs out and letting your booty cheeks hang low.  Don’t set yourself that low.

One of my new favorite trends is coated denim — especially dressed up.  Right now, it’s one of my go-to  for dates right now.  The edgy faux-leather look gives it a really sassy look, with the right curves.  And paired with nice heels?  I’m obsessed.   Paired with a peplum top?  it really hits the hips right, too, and adds some femininity to the masculinity.

If you do want to show your legs — whether it be in shorts or a skirt — remember to pair it with a top that’s not too revealing.  A nice silk button down is my favorite.  It’s just enough polish and class, but the slightly sheer fabric gives a bit of “sex” if that’s what you want to go for (just remember, no one wants to see what’s underneath, even if your date might — save that for later.)

Play up your make up — red lips, smokey eye, tussled waves.  Those are the features that do up an outfit.  That’s what makes sexy.  A great example?  Amber Heard.

Sexy is how you handle yourself.

But alas, some of my favorite picks for dates:

Keep it classy.  Respect yourself.  And remember: leave some mystery.

Fall is almost here.

Aside

I’ve been gathering a few things that I fell in love with for the season.  Now, I won’t lie to you — a lot of it is from Madewell.  It’s not because I work there and I have to sell our product, it’s because I love our product.  I wear it everyday.  The quality lasts.  And when I see it every day, I fall in love and I just have to share.

These are a few things I love for fall.  Most basics, that will transition well throughout the seasons.

Most of my items have a real masculine flare — but I love pairing it with something feminine.  A cute pair of heals with boyjeans, a nice blazer and a statement necklace.  A floral print top with a leather jacket.  A flirty dress with the biker boots.  All items that balance out an outfit.

All will carry throughout the seasons.  I’m against believing you can’t wear boots in the summer.  I live in Arizona.  I’m never without mine,  you just have to make it fit for the occasion.  Pair them with a cute pair of shorts, don’t bundle yourself.

But the seasons are changing!  Statement pieces will carry you a lot longer than a handful of frivolous pieces that will go out of style.  Always stick with the classics.  Nothing is classier than timeless effort.

Aside

How many unintentional hiatuses have I been on?  More than I had initially intended.  I had a lot of life changes.  Unfortunately, by the way of student loans and cosigners, I had to forgo going to FIDM.  So I have spent a lot of time in the last few months reconfiguring my life and where it’s going, all the while dealing with some emotional heartache and rebuilding.

I’ll have you know I’m in a place ready to start over again with this blog.  Still working at Madewell, I’ve used a lot of my time building my wardrobe with favorites, and cannot wait for the transition into fall.  I am over the Arizona heat!

But let’s take a look through my “mirror summer” to see a few of the things I’ve gathered and grew instantly obsessed with — okay, maybe mirror was more punnier originally.  I have a feeling I tried to get more creative than just my mirror with some of my favorite pics.

A Madewell Obsession.

My obsession with Madewell is getting intense.  Denim and stripes, those are my words of advice to you this year.  Grab some denim to style up an outfit.  I cannot wait till our spring line comes to the store!  I’m gonna go crazy.

My best friend and I took a trip to Papago Park and she took some pictures.
